The basic feature of every water filter is to filter out contaminants. However, after some time, the contaminants trapped within the filter will clog it up.

Backwashing is the process of reversing the flow of water through the filter media to clean out the contaminants that have been trapped in the filtration process.
If not removed, the entrapped contaminants will clog up the filter, rendering it to be less effective in its filtration process, resulting in deteriorating water quality.

Most importantly, if left in the water filtration system, the entrapped contaminants (which consists of rust, sand, mud, organic matter, etc), will decay over time. As more raw water runs through the filter, the free chlorine will react with these decaying matter – forming a chemical compound called Trihalomethanes – a highly carcinogenic compound.

Without proper backwashing, you and your family will be in danger of drinking a cocktail of THM in your water.
The backwashing process must have enough velocity (power) to flush out entrapped contaminants.

HydroGuard has been engineered to provide the most effective backwash velocity. Its size – width, height; weight of the media and in-coming water pressure needs to be considered to ensure the media can be lifted up, washed, and contaminants flushed out.
It is advisable that the backwashing procedure is conducted daily. With HydroGuard Primär’s automatic backwash feature, a timer can be set to ensure this is done daily, after midnight, when the water pressure is highest.
